Joe Morello

Joe Morello was the legendary drummer with the Dave Brubeck Quartet. He is famous for his solo in 5/4 in “Take 5”. He was also a distinguished private instructor known for his impeccable hand technique. As an author he reached immortality because of his legendary book “Master Studies”. Joe Morello claimed that it was nothing more than a sequel to his teacher George Lawrence Stone’s “Stick Control.” While thismight be true, Master Studies has become a classic in its own right. With classic exercises like “The Stone Killer” and “Fill ins” it is one of the great books on hand technique.

Joe Morello also made a couple of DVDs which show his ability to play effortlessly at a very high age. On behalf of the druming community, thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.
