Fusion

We used to call fusion jazzrock or jazz/rock as a blend of these two styles. However in reality it’s any musical style played with a jazz conception. As an example you can think of it like jazz meets folk and bluegrass, like the music of the great Béla Fleck.

You too can learn how to play this. First you need to learn how to approach music and drumming from a improvisational point of view. Then you adjust your vocabulary to the style you want to play and BOOM, you’re there.

There are too many to mention really, but here are a couple of big name players associated with this style. Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Steve Smith, Virgil Donati etc.
