Progressive rock

Progressive rock

Progressive rock or simply put prog (rock) is a subgenre of hardrock which became very popular in the sixties and seventies. Bands like King Crimson, Rush, UK, Focus, and later Fates Warning and Dream Theater defined this style.

The style of music is considered to be more for listening than dancing to. As drummers we get to create interesting parts to the music. We also get to play in time signatures other than 4/4. These elements make prog rock very popular amongst drummers.
